INFORMATION FOR DESIGNERS
hidden Design Festival - Sydney
Hidden Design Festival showcases excellence in outdoor design. Gardens will be open to the public over a single weekend in March 2018. We are currently inviting expressions of interest from landscape designers to participate in the event by opening a garden they have created. As the success of hidden largely relies on having a diverse range of design styles open for viewing, we are interested in all sorts of designed spaces - courtyards, balcony gardens and roof gardens as well as more traditional suburban gardens.
The event provides many opportunities for designers and the industry to promote the benefits of well-designed outdoor spaces.
"Getting involved with Hidden was very beneficial for us at Garden Life - an enjoyable day, great for networking with others the industry, potential clients, good for profile. I believe we should all strive to support this good cause, that in turn helps strengthen our collective business." Richard Unsworth, Garden Life
“We’ve participated in Hidden Design Festival for years, and it’s been a rewarding experience to share some of the best gardens we’ve built with a broader audience. To see people’s faces as they experience our gardens for the first time and discover the details of design which photos just don’t convey is fantastic. Participating in the festival has allowed us to showcase our work to potential future clients, and to be part of an event which celebrates what Bates Landscape is all about – garden-making as a force for good in the world.” Michael Bates, Bates Landscape
Hidden provides the opportunity –
- to promote you and your business;
- to promote landscape design;
- to raise awareness of the benefits of landscape design;
- for potential clients to meet you and to see an example of your work;
Many designers have used hidden to raise the profile of their own design business. This has been achieved by integrating their marketing with hidden’s marketing as well as preparing promotional material for distribution before and during the event, see some examples here. Each designer will be profiled in the hidden brochure which is given to each ticket holder, as well as on the hidden website, see the 2016 web page here.
Designers are expected to –
- liaise with their garden owners;
- have themselves or representatives in their open garden to engage with the public;
- use their networks to promote hidden;
- keep in touch with hidden about any follow-up media coverage.
Hidden undertakes a comprehensive marketing campaign that includes media releases and engaging directly with various media outlets and industry associations. Hidden actively promotes the event through regular newsletters and social media. Scouts from various TV shows now actively engage with hidden in looking for suitable sites for use in their shows. Designers and their gardens have featured in several magazines and TV shows, including Better Homes and Gardens, Gardening Australia and Dream Gardens.
