Paddington - Garden Life
10-11 March 2018
This compact walled garden is very much hidden from the street and located in the heart of Paddington. We initially developed the scheme approximately 15 years ago and more recently renovated the planting during a recent house renovation.
The planting is heavily layered with many contrasting forms of foliage and seasonal flowering that gives an immediate sense of calm after walking in from the busy street outside. We created a vast privacy screen using climbers to soften an overbuilt structure next door. The entertaining space has been extended.
Vertical walls are softened with elk and stag horns, and trailing succulents cascade over oversized feature pots. We created a roof garden above the garage with a highly productive herb and veg garden which our clients pick all the time.
The garden belongs to good friends of mine, I live just around the corner and we are forever picking each other’s food when in abundance – which I think is how it should be in our community.
Altogether it’s a charming garden of interest to be immersed in, just to sit in the shade, to read and relax.
